I had mentioned a friend who had been given an opportunity to move to France. I noted that I would have loved that chance and was a little jealous. His response? "I wouldn't move to France, and let me tell you why. They have a Muslim population of about 40-50% and they are really pushing to change legislature to suit their agenda." My reply? (that I was so proud of myself that I was glad I thought of so quickly?) "They do that here too, but it's just Christians instead." He didn't have a response except to tell me I was wrong and that Paris was turning into a slum.

I'd like to know how I'm wrong when Christians on the BOE in Texas want to change school books to present a white-washed view of history so it matches with their twisted ideals. Am I wrong that teaching a SCIENCE class what amounts to a fable as how the earth was created isn't pushing a Judeo-Christian agenda on people? Am I wrong that people who deny gay marriage to American citizens BECAUSE they are gay aren't just kowtowing to an outdated moral code?

Oh, geez, Christians are NOTHING like those crazy Muslims! For all of Jesus's ideas for helping what amounts to the less fortunate, right-wing religious nutjobs sure don't like to practice what they preach. I miss writing. I wanted to start again, but what to do, what to do? So, I've decided to write about something I believe in, or rather, DON'T. Religion.

I was raised Roman Catholic, baptized at 2 months old. My dad's side of the family were more the Easter/Christmas Catholics (with the exception on his parents, they went to Mass every Sunday) and my mom converted after she and my dad split up.

I went to Catholic school from kindergarten until I graduated high school.

I was fairly devout through my school career, attending retreats, Mass at least once a week, and even getting confirmed. I didn't really want to, I was threated with homelessness by my mother if I didn't follow through. By the way, what ever jerk decided that smearing oil on teenagers' faces was a good idea? That's just cruel. Anyways, went to college, decided I was more spiritual than religious. Flirted with the idea of a different religion - mostly paganism and Judaism.

I started thinking more and more about what the world was, why we are here, what everything means. The idea came gradually, I knew from the time I was a teenager that the whole body and blood of Christ thing was a little silly, but I mean, there had to be SOMETHING out there, right?
